Committing to Equality, as a Volunteer, is #CECIforGenderEquality

Event | February 10 2021 | Canada

In 2021, CECI and Vues d’Afrique are teaming up to invite you to a series of online discussions covering various issues of gender equality in Africa and the Caribbean. A well-known person from the world of African cinema will speak with international development actors involved with CECI in various countries. Come discover the inspiring stories and testimonials of these people who work every day for a more just, egalitarian world that is free of discrimination!

In 2015, the members of the United Nations pledged to take the necessary steps to eradicate poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030.This program has resulted in a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are universal, integrative, and focused on the well-being of human beings and the planet. This program explicitly recognizes the role played by volunteers as agents of sustainable development.

To mark the International Development Week, we invite you to learn more about the experience and daily life of two volunteers engaged with CECI, in a context where inequalities are aggravated by the global pandemic and where the progress achieved in recent years is being seriously jeopardized. Meet Dialikatou Barry, female entrepreneurship advisor in Senegal, and Emmanuelle Parent, entrepreneurship advisor in Burkina Faso. By sharing their skills and know-how, and by working closely with local partners, these volunteers work for the economic empowerment of women and young women (SDG 5 and SDG 8), and to build the resilience of communities in the face of climate change (SDG 13). They will be accompanied by Angèle Diabang, filmmaker and activist, who will talk about her commitment to gender equality and how this has materialized in her various film productions.

Join us on February 10 at 2 p.m. EST on the Vues d’Afrique Facebook page! Ask your questions in advance by completing this form.
