Between 2005 and 2020, Vietnam has seen a reduction in poverty and increased economic growth; it became a lower middle-income country in 2009. This growth has changed the economic structure of the country; employment in the agriculture sector has declined, while that of the industry and service sectors has increased.
That being said, Vietnam still faces a gap between an abundance low-skilled labour force and a scarcity of skilled workers. Youth and women particularly struggle to access sustainable economic opportunities. Each year, hundreds of thousands of youth enter the labour market, but most lack adequate skills and are unable to find decent jobs.
By building on these opportunities and collaborating with strategic local partners to maximize impact, WUSC improved the living conditions of some of the most marginalized communities in Vietnam.
