Malawi is a small landlocked country in southeastern Africa, but its economy is open to the world. Despite steady economic growth at 4%, poverty remains widespread in the country, and the economy, undiversified. It largely relies on agriculture, which accounts to 30% of GDP and 70% of total employment.
Youth constitutes over 40% of Malawi’s 18 millions population, and face significant challenges in accessing decent economic opportunities. But sub-sectors such as tea, dairy, and legumes are key to the economy, and offer multiple employment opportunities for women and youth, as well as value creation opportunities for businesses.
By building on this potential and collaborating with strategic local partners to maximize impact, WUSC has improved the living conditions of some of the most marginalized communities in the North, South and Central regions of Malawi.
